Children Hemmed in Prayer

Since 2005, Parkview ladies (and a few men) have participated in a ministry to send shorts, dresses, and other clothing items to needy children around the world. It began as part of the Children Hemmed in Prayer program pioneered by Mary Beth Turberville of Phenix City, AL. Mary Beth is nurse who would go for several weeks each year as a medical missionary, showing God’s love to the people of Central America through the healing arts. She would also take clothing items for the children she encountered in these countries. You can find out more about her at this website.

The Parkview effort originally began as a participant with Mary Beth, but later started working independently to supply children’s clothing items for missionaries from our church and the Baptist association. While no full records have been kept, it is no stretch to estimate that over the last 18 years Parkview has provided more than 1,000 clothing items to be sent overseas, mostly to Uganda, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic. The items are made from rolls of cloth or recycled clothing, cut out and sewn by hand with love and prayer.

The group meets one Thursday each month at 9:00 AM in the Youth Center to continue this worthy cause. Keep an eye on the Sunday bulletin for the next date – they would love to have you join!
